Subject: Withdrawal of Blackout Day directory number 301-31/2007.
According to the directory number 301-31/2007 passed by TRAI in September 1, 2008, telecom service providers have had the power to suspend talktime and message plans of their customers for 5 special days in a year. Since the technology was unable to keep up with the extra pressure brought about by extended usage of said services during those days, the law provided the telecom companies to make their services more effective and control the damage.
However, 8 years have since passed by. This time is rather sufficient for the telecom companies to advance their technologies to meet their growing demands. This special power would have been better with a deadline. The customers who activate STV's and SMS plans are unable to use it on the special days that collide with days where they want to exchange wishes and greetings. The law seems to have overlooked the customer's requirements. Thus, this particular directory surely deserves a careful review and hopefully, a withdrawal.
